A Star Is Born (2018) - review, spoilers

Charly C.

Hello, folks!

Long time no blog! This time, I just remembered we went to watch the movie "A Star Is Born" which apparently is the 4th remake of the 1934 original. Right off the bat, I have to tell you I haven't watched any of the previous versions, so I had no idea of what to expect.

I will try not to spoil you too much, though you probably already know what the movie is all about. Especially if you're older than me and have watched the previous versions, or at least one of them.

Beware as spoilers follow!

The main character is Ally, played by Lady Gaga. She works in a big restaurant of sorts but performs in a drag bar from time to time. Jackson Maine is a well-known country music singer who happens to stop by the bar where Ally performs and becomes fascinated with her voice and nose. He slowly convinces her to sing alongside him, and then she gets a contract of her own.

Jackson was already fighting alcoholism, but things seem to be getting worse and worse for him, despite getting married to Ally. He ends in a rehabilitation clinic, but then Ally's agent triggers him to commit suicide. Ally blames herself for Jackson's death, but his much older brother tells her it really wasn't her fault. At the end, she sings a tribute song for Jackson.

This was a very touching movie, I actually cried three times. -LOL! counting the number of times i cried! Once after the movie was over while talking to Anna about it. I wasn't the only one crying though.

Some spoiling critics:

I can't say Gaga is a really good actress, but she did a good job. She could have moved her face a little more as in my opinion her face was nearly impossible to read. The songs were pretty nice, and her voice was pretty impressive. She also looked quite mature, especially mentally. Though I'm not sure how to better explain this.

Bradley Cooper, who played Jackson, really looked the part, and thus seems a really good choice for the role.

On a scale of 1 to 5 guitars, Anna gave this movie 3 guitars. This is not a low rating, considering Anna prefers horror movies.

My rating is 3.5 to 4 guitars. I don't really like movies with a lot of singing, but i can't say this movie wasn't a musical.

I think you should go see it, but only if suicide and alcohol don't trigger you.
