Feel the Beat (2020) Netflix

Charly C.

Hello all!

This site was getting dry at the time when this post was originally made public.

Here comes the new movie from Netflix, Feel the Beat, to the rescue! It was per chance that i found this movie, and i'm glad i did. Also, if you want to allow your kids (if you have them) to watch a movie, i think this was marked as for those over the age of 7 or 8. Growing up (not coming of age) is one of the themes of this Feel the Beat movie.

Feel the Beat movie poster spoilers impressions review

Let's spoil the show a bit, shall we?

Sofia Carson plays April, a chorus dancer on Broadway. She wants to land a major role in a production for which she auditions. Her career is over right then and there when one of the judges -someone very influential in the industry, sees her on stage. The grudge is because of a ...... ;) -shoot, i forgot, ... you'll have to watch the movie now. ;p

April is forced to go back to her hometown after she's locked out of her apartment because she failed to pay her rent. There she happens to get recruited (against her will) as a dance teacher to a group of little girls who probably would have been better with any other hobby than dancing.

She starts preparing them for a dancing competition as she wants a chance of dancing in front of a producer who is known for hiring whoever he wants, as long as the person is talented.

Of course, the road is not without its obstacles. But it has a happy ending.

What I liked

There are a few things I liked about this movie. Here they are:

  1. Easy to watch. This movie is perfect for the summer because it relaxes you. And what else do you want to do in summer, but relax?
  2. Happy ending. Is there really anyone out there who doesn't like a happy ending?
  3. It's inspirational: work hard and you can get what you want in life. Yes, it's cliché, but it's the truth. Rarely something is handed down to us on a silver platter. Sometimes we fail, yes. But we still have to try and find another way.
    • To be noted here, is that anyone can do anything if they really put their mind, body and soul into it. No matter what they look like or that they have some sort of disadvantage compared to most others around. Go watch the movie to find out what i mean here.
  4. April. Yes the actress is beautiful, but this is not the point here. April seems stuck up at first, but i think she's a really sweet girl. She's talented when it comes to dancing, yes, and this kinda inflated her ego. Her students manage to bring her back down to earth. At the end we see just how good of a dance teacher she is.

This is the official trailer:

What I didn't like

I have a short list of things i didn't like. Let's just say that these were aspects that could have been done a bit better.

Here they are:

  1. Cheesy and predictable - we don;t always want to watch cheesy movies. Luckily, this wasn't such a time for me. The cheesy-ness wasn't over the top, but the predictability was. You can't really expect much more from a summer movie.
  2. The comedy. There were quite a handful of comedic situations, but not too strong. Could have been better. Those specific scenes were done and done again in other (similar) movies.
  3. The romance. There was romance in this movie, as you'd expect. I guess i was hoping for a bit more than that.

I give this movie some 4 stars out of 5. I can go up to 4.5 stars/5.

I think you should go (on Netflix) and watch it, especially if you have nothing better to do and you're getting bored.
