Obscure Reviews I review various things. enjoy?

Old playing cards art

Charly C.

Hi everyone!

This entry is a bit different because i won't be reviewing anything in particular. Instead, i want to present you with most of the court cards from 2 old playing card decks.

The decks and better said the cards were found in an apartment belonging to my partner's great-aunt (? i think this was the relationship). Said aunt is no longer with us, as i related more in this blog post.

I don't have many things to say about the cards i found and took photos of, specifically to share with everyone here. Enjoy the images!

I'm sharing these images because i'm wondering why did they stop printing cards with such pretty art?!

Unfortunately, i don't have all the court cards from both decks. I took pictures of the cards i found, and i'm sharing them with the world. There was only one ace too. The aces also used to have really nice art back in those days.

The jokers are pretty scary if you ask me. I think the ones i put together belong to the same deck, while the other one with the ace, belong to the other deck, or (the cards) to different decks.

I hope you liked this short and unusual entry from me. See you next time!

These cards are from former East Germany.
The first 2 at the top are from Altenburg Ass Salon Karte #66 bridge/canasta/romme set from 1968 and artist is Walter Krauss.
The rest have the Berlinen pattern of court figures also by Walter Krauss but I can't find the actual deck could be a Skat deck.
Many European playing cards had interesting patterns like this going back hundred years in some cases while in America we pretty much had just the boring Bicycle common figures...
